How does our online shop work?

Shopping online is easy and convenient. A true 24/7 way of shopping with the added benefit of doorstep delivery. You are only a few clicks away from all the goodies that you need to get practicing.

Our online ordering works in a similar way to most online ordering systems. It is based on the shopping cart principle which is intended to mimic the actions that you would take in a real shop.

We regret that the shop is only available in English. If this is a problem, please contact us.

Clicking on the [Go Shopping] link on the navigation bar down the side of the page and you will be presented with a page of product options where you select the option of interest using the underlined link word. You will now see a page of products where each product has a description, a photograph and a price.

The prices shown in our catalogue are in £ (pounds Sterling) and they include UK VAT (United Kingdom value added tax at 17.5% - all other European Union states will have an equivalent tax) but exclude the delivery charge. To understand how our delivery charges are arranged, please click on [delivery charges] in the navigation bar at the side of this page.

When you see a product you want, click on the button 'add to cart'. You will be able to choose the quantity, select your invoice location and your delivery location. Once you are happy with the information shown, you will be returned to the catalogue.

Add as many items to your cart as you wish, you can edit the contents at any time by using the 'view cart' button.

Once you have made all the selections you want, click on the 'go to checkout' button. The checkout will add an appropriate carriage charge for your delivery destination and it will remove the VAT element if appropriate. If you have selected the VAT Exemption box, you will be prompted for a valid VAT equivalent number from your country. (Purchasers outside the European Union are charged VAT at 0% automatically.)

Confirming the contents at this stage will move you forward to the credit card processing stage where you have to enter your payment details. At this stage, you may opt to pay in US$ or in Euros when the total will be converted for you and what you now see will be the amount you get billed. (The conversion rate is set every day at midnight GMT by the credit card processing company and held for 24 hours).

We accept most major credit cards with the exception of American Express. We apologise if this causes you inconvenience.

Only when you confirm this page will you have submitted your order to us subject to availability and subject to the terms of our conditions of sale. At this point you will be committed to making the payment and you will no longer be able to alter any of the information that you have entered. So, if you spot a mistake after this stage - you MUST contact us immediately. At any time up to this confirmation, you may alter your input or exit from the process without commitment.

We strongly advise that you read our conditions of sale as they contain valuable information about your rights and concluding the submission of an order assumes that you have. They can be accessed at any time from the main site through the [terms and conditions] button in the navigation bar at the side of the page. You may print them out from your web browser for future reference or save them to your computer.

When the transaction is complete, you will receive two confirmation e-mails to the address that you entered (please ensure it is entered accurately or you won't hear anything from us). One will show you all the individual items that you have bought, their unit prices, the carriage charge and the total. The other message will come from Worldpay who process the credit card payments to confirm that the credit card transaction has been successful.

You will only hear from us directly (by e-mail, telephone or fax) if we are unable to fulfill your order in the normal timespan or if there is something not clear in the information that you supplied. If you need to contact us, please quote your order number off these confirmations. Our contact details are available using the [contact us] button in the navigation bar at the side of the page.

Your order will form the sale contract and will be retained by us for a reasonable length of time. Information contained in it (we will not have your card details) will be handled as described in our Privacy Policy. If you wish to access this information at any time whilst it is on file, please apply to us in writing.

A full tax invoice will be posted to you on the day that the goods depart from our premises as a receipt.

Please now go to the shop by clicking on the [Go Shopping for barres ] link on the navigation bar at the side of the page.

Guidance on the installation of Mode Wall barres

Installation is simple and has been successfully done by many of our customers. We can offer advice and encouragement but we can't come and do it for you! Installation should be done by a competent person using M8 expanding wall bolts (not supplied) and the detailed information is shown below. Click on the link to view the drawing as a pdf files, print it out using the 'print' button on Acrobat Reader and then close Acrobat to return here;

MM380

If the barres are to be fixed to a wall covered in mirrors, the bracket stubs have to be screwed to the wall behind the mirrors, NOT through them. Our design allows the stub to be removed from the bracket so that the stub can be attached to the wall before mirror installation. The mirror can then have added appropriately placed holes to go over the stubs during the mirror installation. Once the mirrors are in place, the body of the bracket can be assembled onto the protruding stubs and the required spacing from the front of the mirror can be set.

Important Notes

The barres should only be fixed to solid walls in good condition. Fixing to stud type walls is not advised. Remember - dancers sit and swing on the barres even if they know they shouldn't!

MML Dance take no responsibility for the installation and it is up to the installer to ensure they are securely fitted in a safe manner.

Assembly guide for Mode Studio and Classic barres

Assembly is simple and straightforward - follow these instructions and you can be up and practicing in no time. Assembly must be done in the following order;

a) All stems must be inserted into the bases and securely locked with the same number of 'pips' showing on every stem.

b) The barre should be placed on the floor and one end raised to allow the first base to be inserted into the barre socket and the screw securely tightened. The assembly is now stable with the base on the floor and the other end of the barre on the floor.

c) The next base should be selected, one with a single headed stem if the barre is to be used on its own or a forked double headed stem if one or more extensions are to be added. The barre end can now be picked off the floor and the selected base inserted into its socket and the screw tightened. Lower the second base to the floor.

d) Subsequent extension barres should be assembled individually and separately from the main barre. The procedure is as in (a) and (b) with the completion of assembly being the raising of the barre end off the floor and placing on the exposed fork of the double headed stem on the main barre. Any further extensions will be assembled in the same way.

e) Extensions can be assembled at right angles to the previous barre.

f) ALWAYS CHECK THAT ALL SCREWS ARE TIGHT AND THAT THE STEMS ARE EXTENDED BY THE SAME AMOUNT IN EACH BASE BEFORE USE.

g) Dis-assembly is the reverse of this procedure.

Now please read the health and safety notices by clicking on the [small print] link in the navigation bar at the side of the page.

Assembly guide for Mode Home barres

Initial assembly is simple and straightforward and needs doing only once. Follow these instructions and you can be up and practicing in no time.

You will have received a hexagonal section, 'L' shaped key with your barre which you should use to put together the barre and then retain in order to check the tightness of the screws periodically.

Initial Assembly must be done in the following order;

a) The stubs of both the bases should be inserted into the ends of the uprights which do not have the handwheels. If part of the stub is still visible, slacken off the screw with the hexagon key supplied until the stem goes fully home. This screw should now be securely tightened with the hexagon key. It is important that these screws are tight and remain so as it is not intended that they ever be undone once assembled. Retain the hexagon key for checking tightness periodically. Insert the stems into the other end of the uprights and lock with the handwheel so that the same number of 'pips' are showing on each stem.

b) The feet of the first leg assembly should be placed on the floor and one socket of the pole located onto the top of the stem. This should be done in such a way that the base is at right angles to the pole and that the handwheel on the upright points towards the nearest end of the pole. The handwheel on the socket should now be securely tightened to create an assembly which is stable with the base on the floor and the other end of the pole on the floor.

c) The other end of the pole can now be picked off the floor, its socket located onto the end of the stem and the handwheel tightened. This base should also be at right angles to the bar with the handwheel on the upright pointing towards the nearest end of the wooden bar. Lower the second base to the floor. The barre is now ready for use.

d) ALWAYS CHECK THAT ALL SCREWS ARE TIGHT BEFORE USE.

e) Dis-assembly is the reverse of this procedure.

How compatible are new Mode barres with older Mode barres?

A. In general, we have ensured that a modern barre will be compatible with any older barres that you may already possess with one proviso. On the earliest version of the Classic barres, the method of attachment of the pole to the stem was different to that used now. These older barres have a coach bolt and a wing nut which must be unscrewed and the bolt withdrawn before the pole can be separated from the stem. It is a tedious operation and the bolt/nuts were often lost which is why the design changed to a clamp screw.

If you put a new pole onto an old style stem (identified by having a hole drilled right through near the top) there will not be a problem. If you have an older style pole and you are purchasing a new stem, please tell us and we will be happy to drill the necessary hole free of charge before dispatch.

Do we hold barres in stock?

A. We don't want you to be disappointed by having to wait for your new barre so we normally have stock to fulfill your order. Occasionally, a large order comes in or a series of smaller orders come all together and we run out before we have finished making some more. If this happens we will advise you of the delay and your cheque will not be cashed until the new batch is ready.

What is the correct height for a dance barre?

A. To enhance the flexibility of our barres, all come with height adjustment so that you can find the most comfortable height to use. Height adjustment is quickly and simply performed without tools and is not restrained by predefined increments.

In instances where an ideal height must be specified, we have a 'rule of thumb' for working out the appropriate height for a dance barre as it doesn't necessarily go by age or height. If you stand upright with your back straight, feet together and flat on the floor, now put your arms straight down your sides and relax the shoulders. Bend your arms at the elbow only until your forearms and hands are parallel with the floor and then bend the elbow down so that your fingertips drop by one inch. This is the ideal height for the barre so get someone to measure from your fingertips to the floor.

How many dancers can you get on a barre?

A. In an ideal world, you would want one barre per student. Sadly, this is not always economically possible so we often get asked this question. It is obviously difficult to answer as it depends on the age of the students, what the teacher is prepared to accept and what exercises they will be doing. Will barres fit into a car?

A. Many of our customers rely on the ability to transport their barres from one location to another and the question of 'transportability' often arises. All our portable barres dismantle without tools to allow placement into the majority of motor vehicles. The one bit that must be considered however, is the pole. You have to be prepared to fold down a seat or two to accommodate at least the 1.8 metre long Mode Home pole. The smaller the car, the more ingenuity is required! Often the best way is to feed it in through a hatchback and aim for the front passenger footwell. If you have no access through the rear, manoeuvring the pole through the side doors is still possible but can be tricky.

Why do we use steel poles when most other manufacturers use wood?

A. In the pursuit of the lightest, strongest, most durable barre we offer a range of an all steel construction. We are principally engineers who understand how to make steel structures meet these requirements and we have seen how hard use of wooden poles can warp, twist and produce splinters once the coating has worn off. None of these effects will happen to a steel barre and furthermore, because the joints are welded, they will not work loose with use like joints between a wooden pole and a steel base.

I bought some barres some years ago and I don't see them in your current range?

A. A while ago we had a simplification in the names we used to describe our barres - the actual barres didn't change.

If you had bought either MMBB/S or MMBB/SE, Senior barres - these are now the HB/P and HB/E, Home barres.

If you had bought either MMBB/P or MMBB/E, Professional barres - these are now the CB/P and CB/E, Classic barres.

If you had bought either MMCB/P or MMCB/E, Contemporary barres - these are now the SB/P and SB/E, Studio barres.
